Region Two – 2017 Fall Regional Meeting
September 28 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Hi, to all…
My name is Tim Galea and I’m the owner of Norton’s Flowers & Gifts. We are a 125 year-old retail flower & gift shop with stores in Ypsilanti and Ann Arbor. I consider myself very lucky to belong to several great industry organizations and peer groups where we get a chance to share best business practices, joint buying opportunities, hiring and staffing issues, government regulations, maximizing profitability, and just common, everyday problems that nobody understands except a fellow florist. These national and statewide opportunities have helped me tremendously in my business, so as a Board member with the Michigan Floral Association, I’m hosting meetings of that nature with fellow florists on a local level. Sometimes it’s just a good idea to get out of your store, meet with your industry friends and competitors, and get a fresh perspective on this business we have chosen.
If you’ve received this email, you either attended the meeting I hosted last summer or you sent me an RSVP indicating you wanted to know when the next meeting would be. The August meeting was well-attended, we had a great evening, and covered a lot of topics relevant to owning and managing a florist business. Subsequently, I presented a similar program at the MFA Expo in March, which was also well-attended and confirmed my suspicion that flower shop owners want to talk to other owners about business that is relevant to their challenges and successes. The agenda in Grand Rapids was very long and we didn’t get to finish all the topics, so we’re going to do this again (on September 28th), but this time we’re including managers in the mix.
So, I’m inviting you to join me and other florists from central and southeastern Michigan for an informal business meeting at a casual restaurant in Chelsea, MI. It would be a pleasure for me to catch up with old friends and make some new ones as well. Don’t be shy! Florists are generally a friendly bunch J This isn’t about competition or anybody stealing your secrets to success! It is just about getting to know each other, figuring out ways to maximize the benefits of our collective experience, and telling the Michigan Floral Association how it can help us improve our businesses.
The general topic for our roundtable is: Business Tips for Florists that Can Help Your Business NOW. There will probably be some repetition from the last couple meetings, just because not everyone could attend those. But we’ll focus most of our attention towards tips and topics that we haven’t covered yet. In addition to the prepared agenda, I’m hoping many of you will come prepared to bring up ideas that you think will help your fellow florists. Please remember, we’re all in this together and our meetings are about sharing, for the benefit of each other and our industry.
